Job Summary

Develop, lead and manage professional development activities for early education professionals. Work in collaboration with Director of Professional Development and Support Services to coordinate resources to improve the quality of early care and education in family child care homes, centers, and preschools by (1) providing uniform services to child care providers, (2) increasing teacher education and training, (3) improving developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood settings, and (4) increasing efficiency in service delivery—locally, regionally, statewide and nationwide.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct all activities related to professional development functions.
  • Lead development of on-demand education portal.
  • Recruit and process trainers for workshops, initiate contracts or agreements.
  • Develop and conduct abuse and neglect trainings requested referred by A&N Unit at DCDEE.
  • Supervise workload of administrative assistant as needed.
  • Coordinate on-line registration process (data entry, database maintenance).
  • Develop comprehensive reports on program progress and submit monthly summary reports to director.
  • Coordinate schedules and workloads of trainers and process payments for services.
  • Lead and conduct on-site and off-site training events.
  • Assist director in processing CEU courses for local and regional CCR&R agencies.
  • Assist in maintenance and upgrade processes to ensure continuous CEU accreditation and audit procedures.
  • Facilitate workshops by supervising sessions, opening and closing facilities as needed.
  • Assist director in review of budgetary line items (revenue analysis and expense data).
  • Attend to trainer needs during the learning event (daytime, evenings and weekends)
  • Coordinate use of venues for learning events.
  • Attend train-the-trainer sessions as directed by supervisor.
  • Serve as liaison with the Division of Child Development and Early Education, regional CCR&R agencies, area community colleges, area four-year colleges, and various child care advisory committees in order to collaborate with them for improved services to child care communities in Durham, Orange and Wake counties.
  • Assist in assessing training evaluations for effectiveness.

Other Duties

  • Organize special professional development events sponsored by CCSA.
  • Support planning committees locally, regionally, and statewide.
  • Maintain program data and files.
  • Serve on local and regional teams representing CCSA.
  • Represent CCSA in a professional manner to our clients and the general public.
  • Treat all client information in strict confidence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with internal and external clients.
  • Computer experience; knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn database programs; proficient in Excel, Work and Internet research.
  • Attention to detail with ability to accurately review and assess documents..
  • Work efficiently and accurately, while projecting a professional, customer-oriented image in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
  • Strong organization skills.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or related human services field with 3 years of experience, or Master’s degree in the above fields with 2 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a child care center.  Prefer experience as an assistant director, or a director of a child care center. 
  • Minimum of 3 years-experience and documented evidence of providing professional development to adults. 
  • Minimum 2 years-experience working in diverse cultural environment.
  • Computer literacy (Internet, Word, Excel).  Requires a valid, non-suspended, NC Driver’s license, a driving record that does not exceed 8 accumulated points, and an automobile liability policy in effect with continuous coverage.

  • An automobile at his/her disposal; a valid, non-suspended NC driver’s license and a current automobile liability policy with continuous coverage.    Reasonable accommodations may be made at agency’s discretion.
  • Must be able to manipulate and operate office supplies and equipment.  Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential responsibilities.

  • May work in shared office space.
  • Local driving to community facilities and child care programs in an assigned county.  Some weekend and evening work required.
