Job Summary

The Birth-to-Three Quality Enhancement Coach provides coaching, professional development, and support to the region’s CCR&R Quality Improvement staff and works in collaboration with licensing consultants and other community agency staff working with providers serving children birth to age three to improve the quality and availability of child care for that age group in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the region’s CCR&R Quality Improvement staff and all other individuals providing technical assistance and training to child care providers serving children birth to age three in the region
  • Work collaboratively with licensing consultants, abuse and neglect consultants, early intervention specialists, community college educators, child care health consultants, and health inspectors working with child care providers serving infants and toddlers in the region
  • Provide IT-SIDS (Infant Toddler Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) prevention trainings
  • Recruit and maintain a caseload of Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) participants serving children birth to age three according to project parameters and protocols with the overall project goal of improving the quality and increasing the availability of child care services for children birth to three throughout the region
  • Recruit and publicize project services and activities on an ongoing basis
  • Determine needs and disseminate approved grant-funded materials (when available) to child care programs and/or families within the region
  • Work collaboratively with other Birth to Three Specialists from across the state and the statewide Project Management team.
  • Gather and maintain all necessary paperwork including applications, contracts, program plans, site visit summaries, etc. on each program in caseload
  • Meet all regional outcomes of the Statewide Birth-to-Three Quality Initiative Project
  • Participate in the Project Evaluation Plan
  • Attend all trainings and meetings required of the Birth to Three Specialists
  • Prepare and submit all required reports
  • Treat all information on clients, employees and Board Members in a confidential manner
  • Participate in local, state and agency sponsored events or meetings
  • Represent agency at local, state or national conferences
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Project and Agency leadership

Special Skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with internal and external clients
  • Computer experience; knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn electronic file organization platforms (e.g., Work Life Systems and File Maker Pro), Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace
  • Attention to detail with ability to handle large volume of administrative work
  • Ability to independently manage a large caseload of coaching and trainings throughout region
  • Ability to prioritize work and travel schedule to balance administrative duties, coaching and trainings
  • Ability to work well with a diverse client population
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively with other project team members

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and five years of experience in direct service and management working with children birth to three their families or programs that serve them OR Master’s degree and two years of experience
  • Have or will obtain (within 18 months of being hired) a Technical Assistance Endorsement through the NC Institute for Child Development Professionals
  • At least two years experience providing technical assistance to child care programs to increase their quality of care
  • Preferred: Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) certified, LITL Certificate holder or willingness/ability to successfully complete one or both programs
  • Preferred: Knowledge of environment rating scales (ITERS), CLASS (Infant and Toddler), and the Pyramid Model

Special Working Requirements

  • An automobile at his/her disposal; a valid, non-suspended NC driver’s license and a current automobile liability policy with continuous coverage. Reasonable accommodations may be made at agency’s discretion.
  • Must be able to manipulate and operate office supplies and equipment. Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential responsibilities.
  • Extensive travel throughout the region
  • No substantiation or criminal conviction of child abuse or neglect
  • Some positions may require need for flexible schedules, including potential evening and weekend work
  • Must adhere to established health and safety protocols when onsite at CCSA’s physical office locations
  • If working remotely or approved for a hybrid work arrangement, must have dependable internet access and a home environment conducive for remote work. 
  • Some positions may require some regional/statewide/national daytime and/or overnight travel
